About Me

My photo
I love taking pictures! As I take them, it seems that somewhere in the back of my mind a story is being written. The resulting "photo stories" simply reflect my love of nature. I'll share some with you now that I am venturing into the world of blogging. Enjoy!

Come Walk With Me....

I belong to a walking club which is a member of the American Volksmarch Association.  (It is so much easier to write AVA because I always have to look up the spelling of Volksmarch...or is it Volksmarche....oh what the heck!)  Anyway, I had to get up at 6 a.m. (Yuk!) today in order to get to the start at 8 a.m.  Now, my dears,  it was a glorious-blue sky-puffy white clouds, brilliant colors of summer-eye bedazzling day.  Uh..Uh....that was the sun bedazzling!  A big, bright .... HOT sun bedazzling!  The walk started with all my buddies briskly stepping out in true AVA rhythmic determination.  One block....three blocks......a half mile.....and I began to wipe the sweat from my brow.  3/4 of a mile and I used my shirt to wash my hands free of the makeup that had blobbed onto them when wiping my perspiring brow.  One mile and I noticed that I could now use my jeans for a washcloth.  No...not what you think happened...it was just a heavy "glow" bedewing me from my waist down to my sneakers.  Remember...ladies do not sweat....we glow (Ha....if any flies had landed on me they would have instantly drowned!) By a mile and a half I was looking for any interesting flora, fauna, bugs, buildings, rocks, trash, whatever to  show my buddies so that they would stop for a look.  The purpose?  To take a rest no matter how brief.  My 10k (6.4 miles for you who don't want to do the figuring) turned into a plodding, sweat laden, miserable 5k (you figure out the miles, I'm tired.)  When I staggered to my car at the end of the walk and opened the door, I was greeted by a blast of furnace-hot air!  Had I any strength left in my body, I would have yowled in misery.  While waiting by my open car door for the A/C to bring relief, a younger, perky buddy walked by and said:  "Great walk, wasn't it!"  Should you like to know my reply, just look at the photo above.

But....come the next walk....I will be there.  And....dreaming of walking in the winter.
